What to do in Budapest

Heroes Square (Hosok Tere), Thermal Baths & Zoo

This area is the ideal spot for a half day of family fun, with plenty of choices for all tastes

The famous heroes square, at the end of the Andrassy Utca, is the gateway to a large range of great spots:

  1. a large park, where you can walk through a castle,

  2. the famous Széchenyi Thermal baths (one of the largest spa complexes in Europe. It's also the first thermal bath built in Pest)

  3. The Budapest Zoo and botanical garden, which hosts all sort of species (white bears to rhynoceros!) and is a sure bet to keep your kids happy!

Events in Budapest

Formula-1 at Hungaroring,

Budapest, Magyarország

Every year the Formual 1 circus pays tribute to Budapest, with a weekend of sport, passion, and a large crowd of fans, famous or not ! It all started in 1986, when Bernie Ecclestone after having not succeeded to bring the Formula 1 to the Soviet Union for several years tried his luck with Budapest and received a warm welcome from the Hungarians, where autosports competions have been popular since the early ‘30s.

The Hungaroring circuit is 19 km from the centre of Budapest, alongside the M3 motorway at the border of the village, Mogyoród. The track is in a natural valley, surrounded by 50 hectares of rolling hillside. With this exceptional natural advantage, almost 80 percent of the racetrack is visible from any point. This is the reason why it is called "The Shallow Plate", it is because the spectators are watching races sitting by the side of an imaginary plate.

Circuit Details:

•Number of laps:70

•Length of track: 4381 m

•Distance of race: 306,663 Km

•Track record: M. Schumacher (1:32.252.- 2004)

Ecseri market is one of Budapest's hot-spots for Antiquities

Antique pieces, baroque and secession furniture, paintings, instruments, jewelry, toys, porcelain ... the vendors offer a very wide range of products.

Quarelling and bargaining between vendors and buyers is very common, but, hey, it’s part of the charm of an Antiques market!!

Address: 1194 Budapest, Nagykorosi u. 56

Organic Market

Food shopping may not be the first thing you do in Budapest, still if you want to have a look at something local, or buy some good quality hungarian food (honey, cakes, goat cheese, pastries, etc etc) you should pay a visit to this Organic Market on the Buda side of the city. Quality of the food is guaranteed by the Hungarian Bioculture Association.

Every Saturday between 6.30 and 13, in a territory of some 1000 square metres, agriculturists and vendors of pre-packed food wait to sell their produce in kiosks made of wood and thatch to customers. On average 70-90 vendors are present offering a colourful range of goods.

Location: Budapest Hegyvidék 12th district, courtyard of the former MOM Community Centre (1124 Budapest, Csörsz u 18.)

More Info: Hungarian Bioculture Association
